While it is important to validate our client's desires to follow a diet for health & weight loss, offering them insight into a different approach is tricky. Social media influencers and other health professionals are often very loud and convincing about the diets they follow and the 'success' they see with dieting. It can be hard to find our voice and to be heard in the sea of nutrition advice.
Striking a balance between advocating for a focus on behaviours (versus weight lost) while giving the client 'what they want' takes practice.
Learn how to find your own way to balance these tough conversations- from experts who have had many a tough discussion with clients.
Discover new ways and tips on how to navigate tough conversations with clients, how to send the right message online to attract ideal clients and how to 'sell' a non-diet approach in a world that covets dieting.
Walking away from diet talk and promises of weight loss is HARD. Learn how to make that transition easier from an experienced dietitian who has successfully pivoted from a weight based private practice to one that is wellness based.
The presenter is Robin Glance, P.Dt. www.RobinGlanceNutrition.com
Robin graduated from McGill University and began her career working at the Montreal General Hospital. A few years ago, she decided to begin a private practice in the West-Island, focusing more on preventative health which has flourished into a thriving practice. In this line of work, Robin has had the opportunity to work with a vast array of clients of all ages as well as align herself with many schools, sports teams and workplaces, providing workshops to help better nutritional knowledge. Robin practices “gentle“ nutrition and focuses on mindful or intuitive eating with clients. She is a weight-neutral dietitian and works within the “Health at Every Size” (HAES©) paradigm.
In a 70min presentation, Robin addresses how to help transition to a weight-inclusive approach in nutrition counselling. This includes:
- Benefits & challenges of dropping “weight loss” as a selling point
- Social media/ website updates: how to send the right message
- Difficult client conversations & how to respond when a client “really wants to lose weight”
- Helping other health professionals/ the interdisciplinary team to get on board with a weight-inclusive approach
After this workshop, you should feel more prepared and supported in presenting yourself as a weight-inclusive professional and be able to confidently move forward in the transition.
The presentation is followed by a 40min Q & A with the audience and the presenter on Nov 2018.
